Que Sera Sera!: October 2012

Today is my sweet little guy's birthday. It's hard to believe that a year ago today at this time I was lying in a hospital bed hours after having a scalpel shoved into my un-anesthetized abdomen; holding my tiny 6.1 oz boy and seeing only the beginning of his beauty. I've been reliving that day over and over today via pictures and just seeing the date. One of the scariest yet most amazing days of my life. It makes me realize how fucking awesome women are. How can you not think that we are a superior species? Look at what we go through! We are squeezed and stretched and smashed and yanked and rearranged and yet we survive and say "Yes! Let's do that shit again!" (Well...some of us... ) I wish a man would try to tell me he can handle labor. Nobody should have to feel pain like that ever but we handle that shit like G's! :) Anyway....

I couldn't ask for a better kid. He is so happy to just be alive. He is wildly curious and daring for just 1 year old. He is so observant and relaxed most of of the time. Other times I'm stopping him from climbing up the bookcase or balancing on some tall wobbly toy. He's got walking down to an art at this point. He kind of just does laps around the living room and when there is music on he walk around flapping his arms and giggling. Today I vow to start to wean this kid. I made it to a year and I'm proud of myself but it's time for Coen to start drinking from a cup. Wish me luck folks. This kid will literally pull my boob out and stick it in his own mouth if he so pleases. I feel like i'm trying to convince a bear to eat honey from the jar and not from the hive. He's also getting his first tooth and although he hasn't quite bit me yet, once that tooth wiggles it's way all the way out, i'm expecting some blood to be drawn. Either mine or his....Who knows how I will react!

Coen's 12 month Dr. Appointment was today also. Shots on your birthday...sorry son! :( He handled it like a champ though. He got his foot poked and didn't even cry or make a peep. Those 5 shots on the other hand... he could hardly catch his breath he cried so hard. But only for a min. Nothing a dum-dum sucker couldn't fix. Thank God I gave him Ibuprofen before his shots this time. He seemed to handle it much better. I even got a flu shot just to make him feel better. We're in this together kid! Hopefully he doesn't get a fever this time. That is the worst. Plus he's already cutting that tooth. My lil man is following in his daddy's footsteps and growing very slowly. He's down to the 1st percentile for height ( no shock there...) and he's in the 5th percentile for weight (Say what? Even with all those rolls?) She says its not uncommon when a baby starts walking but we've really gotta push solids and get him off the boob. His big ol' head is still in the 55th percentile though. Takes after his mama there. Big heads are hard to avoid in my family. As long as its full of brains, that's fine with me.

We had his birthday "party" on Saturday at the zoo. A lot of people showed up surprisingly. It turned out to be a nice lil day and Coen seemed to like the zoo. He smiled and laughed a lot. All except for when I put him by the glass with those black and white monkeys and one jumped right up to the glass in front of him and Coen about shit his pants. He cried and baby cussed me out for putting him down there in the first place and basically said I was a bad mother. He forgave me once we got to the elephants. He could've watched them forever. My personal fav's are the Orangutans and the Giraffes. I wonder what his will be?
