Sunday Confession

Once Coen turns one we are going to start trying for another baby. Sounds crazy, I know but we have this plan. Be done by 30 (me 30). That means if we want to have 3 kids we have but a few short years to pop them out :).  I'm in mommy-mode right now and I know once Coen is putting on his own shoes and socks and picking out his own clothes and feeding himself and entertaining himself...it's all going to be too easy (easy in comparison to a newborn) and I'm not going to want to start over. This means that by the time he's 2, he will have a sibling and I'll still be in mommy-mode.  It is by no means an easy thing. Newborn months are definitely the hardest. Once Coen hit 4 months things started to get a little easier. He slept longer, he could be left alone in his jumper, I could shower.  The first few months with a toddler and a newborn will probably be hard but....I think I can handle it.

A lot of people I know have 1 kid and they're like, "Oh man, I don't know if I want another one." So it feels crazy to be the only one thinking...yea...lets have another one. But I think of how my life would be without my brother and sister and it just wouldn't be the same. Cousins and Friends are not the same as a brother or sister.  After #2 we'll see how many more we want to have...if any. But right now we definitely want another one. My son lights up my life. He's taught me a lot about myself and I get to show him everything the world has to offer. It's a beautiful thing.

So for now I will enjoy my precious lil guy and once he turns 1...we will begin our next adventure.

Mom-Things I've learned...

1. Pampers makes the best wipes.

2. Buy a dresser. A solid wood one. Not those plasticy ones. They will grow with your kid and last.

3. Hand-me-downs are awesome. Your kid will grow out of clothes in 2.5 seconds and you're not going to have to buy a whole new wardrobe every few months. Take what you can get and save some $.

4. Breastfeeding...F*n hurts. For at least the first 2 weeks. It will get better. If you're going to do it...kudos. It is the best thing for your lil one and it's also free! If you're going to work...then pump! (ok...i'm getting off my soapbox now)

5. Your kid's hair will probably fall out. Don't be sad. It will grow back...verrrrry slooowly.

6. Breastfed babies poop...still smells like poop. Don't believe the hype

7. Stop wearing black. I have a white stain on almost every shoulder of every black shirt I own from my kid puking on me.  I will probably stop wearing white once my kid is fully eating solids.

8. Cutting your babies fingernails and toenails is like performing surgery on a mosquito. It's awful and scary and I hate it.

9. Men are terrible multi-taskers. It's not their fault,  its just not in their genetic material. Don't be mad if your husband can't feed and rock the baby while changing his diaper and also cook dinner while holding a conversation with you. It's just one of those woman super powers.

10. A mom can make up a song for almost every activity of the day...bathtime, mealtime, crying...It's quite the talent

11. Your baby will get hurt and it will scare the shit out of both of you. Probably mostly you. It's ok. You're not a bad mother. You're just human and sometimes shit happens.

12. Even though you are a mother...don't expect your mother to treat you like a mother. She will treat you like her daughter and tell you what you should be doing for your child. Take it with a grain of salt and remember she just became a grandmother. Being overbearing may be her way of coping.

13. Babies have some stank feet. They sweat and their feet tend to smell like cheddar cheese. (yes I bathe my child...its just one of those things...I asked my Dr. LOL)

14. Babies do not need 10 layers of clothing. I'm always cold and so I think my kid has got to be freezing. Nope. He's a chunky boy and like most people with some meat on their bones...he sweats like a mutha. I bring extra clothes and blankets just in case...but usually he doesn't need anything but a light blanket over him and MAYBE a beanie.

15. 7 minutes of sleep can do wonders

16. Coffee never tastes better than at 6 am when you have one eye open and one slipper on and a perky bright eyed and bushy tailed baby in your arms.

I will add more to this when I think of other stuff...

Flashback Friday

I love love love this song.  Joni Mitchell is a lyrical genius.

Whew

What an incredibly long weekend this was. I feel like I've forgotten how to get up early. We had Mike's graduation Friday followed by a day of me cooking, Saturday we had the cloth diaper change followed by the Jones vs Evans fight, Sunday we had my family pictures followed by a BBQ for Mike's family and today I sat around on a perfectly gorgeous day and photo-shopped pictures all day.  I am exhausted! Tomorrow I will get up early to run and then I will clean the house and laze around I think. I have another week off from school and i'm going to take full advantage.

Family Pictures turned out better than I thought. We took them ourselves and I photoshopped them. It is just my brother and sister and parents this round but my lil family will take pictures soon. Hopefully Coen will start sitting up better and we will do it within the month.

Here are the results for most of them:

Sunday Confession

Tuesday Night Coen was waking up quite a bit in his crib. I was up and down all night. We got up around 7 am and I read a lil for my homework and then he fell back to sleep so I put him in his crib and tried to catch some shuteye. Around 9 am he woke up hungry so I grabbed him and put him in my bed to feed him. He woke up around 11 and I saw that he had but was still half asleep. For some reason I slept with him on the outside of the bed (which I know better than to do because he rolls). Sure enough I fell back to sleep while he was awake and next thing you know you hear a "THUD" and "Waaaaaaaaaaaah!"

Well needless to say...we all were awake after that. I found him on the floor on the side of the bed on his belly. Luckily the floor is carpeted. I don't think he hit anything but it sure scared the shit out of him. And us too!

After a minute of crying he was fine and back to normal.

I could slap myself.

I was just saying the other night that I don't think I have any gray hairs yet....

This may have given me my first.

Great Cloth Diaper Change 2012

There was such a big turn out this year for the Great Cloth Diaper Change of 2012. Looks like there are a lot more families switching to cloth. My friend Veronica and I went again this year and this time I had a baby's bum to change. Coen had a great ol' time. We both won some door prizes which I was pretty proud of (I never win anything) and they even gave me some unclaimed prizes when I went up to get mine. We left with a bag full of coupons, diaper liners, an OhKaty black diaper, Laundry Detergent, Pail Freshener, Diaper Ointment, Burp rags and a swaddling blanket and bunch of other goodies. Not too shabby huh. Overall it was a good time and it was cool to see that our little community is getting bigger. Hopefully next year they get a bigger venue!

Daddy's got his degree!

After a very long studious year, my husband has finished up his Bachelors degree in Political Science.  He took a lot of time off to do his business and decided last year that he was so close to finishing that he'd better do it.  It took a lot of sacrifices as far as time and energy but we are both relieved that he's finally finished. Although he may go onto get  his Master's at least we get a little break. (Well...he does...I'm still in school through the summer and for a few years to come) I couldn't be more happy or proud of him. It's definitely a field I know nothing about, but he does his best to educate me. I like that we can still teach each other some things. Onward and upward!

I made Mike Feijoda as a graduation present

It was delicious...if I do say so myself
